- at the NoMad New York
Paris-based Maison Kitsuné was founded in 2002 by Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki as a record label and fashion company. Gildas served as the art director /manager for the famous French Electro band, Daft Punk, while Tokyo-born Masaya is a trained architect whose Franco-Japanese upbringing helped him develop his obsession with quality, pure lines and sharp details so evident in their collections. Masaya, who oversees the design, is influenced by American, 1960s East Coast style. In addition, he identifies certain films or periods each season to inspire collections. The look, however, is still distinctly French, inspired by his countrymen from the 1960s who travelled around and fell in love with the unique American elegance of the East Coast. Maison Kitsuné at The NoMad Hotel will be their first ever dedicated retail space in the United States, and will feature Kitsuné, WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie goods, and Monocle-branded products, among other carefully edited brands.
